Connecting the Infra Red Adaptor to your Computer

To download dives profiles from your VR dive computer you will need the DeltaP Infra Red adaptor. 

  • The Infra Red ports built into laptops do not work with Prodive or VR dive computers.

  • RS232 serial to IRDA adaptors do not work with Prodive or VR dive computers.

  • USB to IRDA adaptors do not work with Prodive or VR dive computers.

The Infra Red Adaptor should be plugged into your PC's serial port.  You will need a suitable cable.  Serial ports are located on the back of most computers.  Your computer may have one or more serial ports.

If possible connect the Infra Red adaptor to a 9 pin serial port.  You will need a DB9 Female to DB9 Male serial port extension cable of about 2m length.

The serial extension cable must be wired straight through with no pins crossed.

  • Do not use a NULL modem cable.

Plug one end into your PC and the other into the Infra Red adaptor.  You do not need additional drivers.

Some new laptops do not have a 9 pin serial port.  You will need to buy a USB to serial adaptor cable.  Most computer stores stock a suitable cable.

USB to serial cables will require software drivers to be loaded before they will work.  Drivers are supplied with the cable and are not available from DeltaP.  If you experience problems with the cable you should seek support from the computer store or cable  manufacturer.
